Maintenance Engineer – Hirwaun, Wales

Maintenance Engineer required to work for a leading food manufacturing company based in Hirwaun, Wales.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established manufacturing business, where you will play an important role in keeping production running safely and efficiently, whilst being supported with ongoing development and the opportunity to work with a wide range of production equipment.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work as a Maintenance Engineer, performing various tasks including:

  • Carrying out planned, preventative, corrective and reactive maintenance.
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults.
  • Responding to breakdowns and minimising production downtime.
  • Carrying out root cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions.
  • Supporting production with equipment start-ups, changeovers, calibrations and adjustments.
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Supporting equipment upgrades, installations and commissioning.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records through the site's CMMS.
  • Managing engineering spares, tools and equipment.
  • Working closely with production and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and performance.
  • Ensuring all work is completed in line with Health & Safety, hygiene and food safety requirements.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Relevant Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering qualification/trade qualification.
  • Previous maintenance engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Good knowledge of motors, gearboxes and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with basic PLC-controlled systems.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience using CMMS or maintenance management systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
  • Good Health & Safety awareness.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience within food manufacturing.
  • Experience with automated production or packaging equipment.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, hygiene zoning and food-safe engineering practices.
  • Experience working within chilled, wet or high-care environments.
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing standards and audit requirements.
  • Experience with automation, robotics, vision systems or automated inspection equipment.
  • Lean or Six Sigma experience.
