About the Role
We are partnering with a UK based high-voltage engineering ICP who are seeking an experienced Technical Manager – Protection & Control to lead technical execution, engineering strategies, and design oversight for high-voltage (HV) substation and grid connection projects. You will act as the primary technical authority for protection schemes, control systems, and automation integration across complex power transmission and distribution systems.
Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership: Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for HV protection, control, and SCADA architectures (up to 132kV / 275kV / 400kV).

Design Oversight: Review and approve protection philosophy, relay settings, trip schemes, IEC 61850 network architectures, and single-line diagrams (SLDs).

Team Guidance: Mentor and direct a team of P&C design engineers, setting standards and ensuring compliance with industry codes (e.g., IEEE, IEC, Grid Code).

Stakeholder Management: Work closely with DNOs/TSOs, EPC contractors, and clients to resolve complex technical grid interface issues.

Project Delivery: Oversee technical commissioning strategies, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site acceptance testing (SAT) protocols.
Qualifications & Experience

Degree: Bachelor's or Master’s in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).

Experience: 8+ years in High Voltage (HV) electrical engineering, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or senior technical role.

Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of digital protection relays (e.g., Siemens SEL, Megger, Schneider, GE), secondary system design, and IEC 61850 protocols.

Grid Connection Knowledge: Familiarity with grid code compliance, fault calculations, and system stability studies using tools like DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, or CAPE.
