Power Transformer Design Engineer (Up to 345kV / 200 MVA)
A growing power engineering services organization is hiring a Transformer Design Engineer to support complex remanufacturing, upgrade, and life-extension projects for large liquid-filled power transformers across North America.
This is a hands-on, high-impact engineering role — not production-only design.
What you’ll be doing

Active-part & coil design / reverse engineering

Transformers up to 200 MVA, 345 kV
-
Substation, mobile, arc furnace, phase-shifting, rectifier & specialty units
-
Performance and reliability upgrades for legacy fleets
Key Responsibilities

Thermal, electrical, mechanical & short-circuit calculations

Engineering drawings, documentation & BOMs
-
Failure analysis and root cause investigations

Cross-functional work with manufacturing, testing & field teams

Technical input for customers and proposals
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years transformer coil / active-part design experience
- BSEE (MSEE a plus)
- Experience with short-circuit modeling & transformer design software
- Knowledge of insulation systems, losses, inrush, mechanical forces
- CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
Location & Travel
- Engineering hub in the Mountain West U.S.
- Relocation encouraged long-term
- Travel typically 10–15% (higher possible if remote)
