Manager – IT Infrastructure & Engineering Platforms

VHR is recruiting for an experienced Manager – IT Infrastructure & Engineering Platforms on behalf of a leading aerospace organisation. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in establishing and managing the engineering computing infrastructure that supports a next-generation aerospace programme.

You will be responsible for delivering secure, high-performance infrastructure that enables engineering teams to design, develop and certify complex aerospace systems. This includes cloud infrastructure, high-performance computing (HPC), engineering platforms, networking, storage and disaster recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy and manage sovereign cloud infrastructure, ensuring security, scalability and data residency compliance.

  • Build and operate high-performance computing (HPC) environments supporting engineering simulation workloads including FEA, CFD and other computational analysis.

  • Deploy and support PLM, EDMS and MBSE platform infrastructure.

  • Manage engineering compute environments, including workstations, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), software deployment and licensing.

  • Own engineering networking, storage, backup, disaster recovery and business continuity.

  • Lead infrastructure projects from design through implementation and operational handover.

  • Work closely with engineering, DevSecOps, quality and configuration management teams to deliver reliable, high-performing infrastructure.

  • Manage third-party suppliers and technology partners.

  • Lead and mentor a small infrastructure team while remaining technically hands-on.

Requirements

  • 15+ years' experience within IT Infrastructure.

  • At least 5 years supporting engineering computing environments within aerospace, defence or another high-performance engineering industry.

  • Strong experience designing and managing cloud infrastructure within secure or sovereign environments.

  • Proven experience building and operating HPC clusters supporting engineering analysis workloads.

  • Experience deploying and supporting PLM or EDMS platforms.

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise networking, storage, backup and disaster recovery.

  • Experience working with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools is highly desirable.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Aerospace engineering environments supporting certification programmes.

  • MBSE collaboration platform deployment and support.

  • Experience working with classified or highly regulated environments.

  • Vendor management across cloud providers, infrastructure vendors and engineering software suppliers.
