1. What’s your name and can you tell me a bit about your role at VHR?

Hi, I’m Debora. I’ve been with VHR for two years, specialising in the delivery of recruitment solutions across Motorsport, Formula 1, Automotive, and Aviation. My role spans the full recruitment lifecycle — from gaining a deep understanding of each client’s unique requirements to sourcing and securing top-tier talent. I take pride in working closely with both clients and candidates to ensure the best possible match between opportunity and expertise.

2. How has working at VHR supported your development as a specialist?

Working at VHR has significantly advanced my development as a recruitment specialist. I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with seasoned professionals across high-performance sectors, which has deepened my technical understanding and market insight. The fast-paced nature of the business, paired with ongoing support from colleagues, has sharpened my skills in candidate sourcing, stakeholder communication, and end-to-end recruitment delivery. It’s an environment that consistently challenges and empowers me to grow.

3. Can you describe the role you recently placed a candidate in?

One of the most recent placements I made was for a CAD CAM Programmer with a leading Formula 1 team. This was a highly specialised role that required in-depth knowledge of precision manufacturing software and experience working in high-pressure environments.

The position demanded not just technical capability, but also a strong cultural fit with the fast-paced and exacting standards of F1. I successfully identified and secured a candidate whose background aligned precisely with the team's requirements — a great example of how technical understanding and client insight lead to successful placements.

4. How did you go about sourcing and selecting the right candidate?

I utilised a multi-channel sourcing strategy, leveraging our internal talent database, LinkedIn, and niche industry platforms, along with direct outreach to my professional network within Motorsport and Automotive.

Once I built a strong shortlist, I conducted structured interviews focusing on both hard skills and soft attributes — particularly adaptability, resilience, and ability to thrive under pressure. The candidate ultimately selected brought not only the technical experience but also the mindset needed to succeed in a high-performance team environment.

5. Can you share how you supported the candidate through the process?

From the outset, I provided clear, consistent communication. Once I identified the candidate as a strong match, I walked them through every aspect of the role — from expectations and company culture to the nuances of working within Formula 1.

I prepared them for each interview stage, offering tailored insights into the client’s priorities and guidance on how to present their expertise. I remained a constant point of contact throughout, answering questions, offering feedback, and ensuring they felt informed and supported.

After the offer was extended, I managed the onboarding process — coordinating documentation, start dates, and compliance elements such as PPE and shift schedules. Even post-placement, I maintained contact to ensure a smooth transition and long-term satisfaction.

6. Was there a key lesson you took away from this recruitment process?

Absolutely — the critical value of proactive communication. Maintaining regular contact with both the client and candidate, even in quieter moments, builds trust and keeps momentum steady.

I also reaffirmed the importance of managing expectations early on. By establishing clarity around timelines, interview processes, and feedback cycles, we avoided misunderstandings and delivered a seamless recruitment experience.

Every process presents its own challenges, and this one reinforced how adaptability and strong stakeholder management are essential to successful delivery.

7. What would you say to candidates who are unsure about working with a recruiter?

I’d say: think of a recruiter as your strategic partner in the job search. We're here not just to connect you with roles, but to champion your profile, provide market insight, and guide you through every step of the journey.

A good recruiter takes the time to understand your strengths, goals, and values — and works to align you with opportunities that truly fit. There’s no pressure, just a chance for open conversation, honest feedback, and personalised support.

At the end of the day, it’s about finding the right fit — not just any job. And that’s where we come in.
