Our client is a leading provider of specialist infrastructure, engineering, and support services to the telecommunications and power sectors. Working across major utility frameworks—including critical electrical transmission and distribution networks—we are committed to operational excellence, rigorous safety standards, and developing top-tier technical talent.

The Role

As an OHL Technical Trainer, you will play a crucial part in ensuring our workforce, contractors, and network personnel meet the highest standards of safety, compliance, and technical proficiency. You will design, deliver, and assess training programs covering overhead line construction, maintenance, network upgrades, and critical safety rules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Training Delivery: Deliver engaging classroom-based and practical, hands-on training sessions covering MV/LV overhead line construction, maintenance, and upgrading.

  • Safety & Compliance Instruction: Train personnel on essential safety protocols, including network isolations, earthing, Equipotential Zone (EPZ) procedures, and pole/tower climbing and rescue techniques.

  • Competency Assessment: Conduct rigorous technical and practical competency assessments, ensuring all trainees meet strict utility framework standards (such as ESB Networks requirements).

  • Mentorship & Coaching: Support apprentices, junior technicians, and contractors through structured coaching and professional development pathways.

  • Documentation & Standards: Maintain audit-compliant training records and update course materials in line with evolving industry regulations and client specifications.

Candidate Requirements

  • Industry Experience: Extensive hands-on background (3 to 5+ years minimum) working as a qualified Linesperson or Network Technician across distribution and transmission networks.

  • Operational Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of utility safety rules, live-line procedures, and safe systems of work (e.g., holding or having held Person in Charge of Work / PICW or similar operational control duties).

  • Training Qualifications: Formal qualification in Training and Development (such as a QQI Level 6 Train the Trainer or equivalent teaching/assessing credential).

  • Safety & Climbing Certifications: Up-to-date certifications in pole and tower climbing, rescue, and relevant industry health and safety standards.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and coaching abilities with a passion for driving safety culture and technical excellence.

What's On Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience.

  • Opportunities for professional growth within a rapidly expanding power infrastructure business.

  • The chance to shape the safety and technical competency of the next generation of utility professionals.
