Mechanical Engineer (Aircraft Components)

Mechanical Engineer required to work for a leading aerospace maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) company. This role focuses on the repair, overhaul, testing and assembly of safety-critical aircraft mechanical components and assemblies.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work as a Lead Mechanical Engineer, performing various tasks including:

  • Disassembly of aircraft mechanical assemblies to assess condition, wear and serviceability in accordance with approved documentation.
  • Interpretation and application of Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), repair instructions and engineering data during repair and overhaul activities.
  • Precision mechanical repairs and reassembly of aircraft components to approved specifications.
  • Assembly of integrated mechanical systems, ensuring correct fit, function and alignment.
  • Functional and operational testing of assemblies, including hydraulic and pneumatic elements where applicable.
  • Selection of appropriate materials, consumables and repair methods in line with aviation standards.
  • Supporting component recovery, efficiency and cost-control initiatives. 
  • Accurately recording work carried out, test results and operational data.
  • Maintaining tools and equipment in accordance with quality and regulatory requirements. 
  • Fault finding, root cause analysis and implementation of improvement solutions.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, quality and regulatory standards throughout workshop operations. 

Mandatory Requirements

  • Proven hands-on experience in precision mechanical assembly, repair or overhaul. 
  • Working knowledge of small hydraulic systems, including testing and fault diagnosis.
  • Working knowledge of gearboxes (automotive, marine, motorcycle, aerospace or similar industries considered). 
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles, tolerances, material properties and assembly techniques.
  • Ability to work accurately and create detailed technical documentation and work procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards of workmanship.
  • Strong problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working to tight tolerances and regulated processes. 

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience within a regulated engineering environment such as aviation, aerospace, automotive, marine or defence.
  • Familiarity with aircraft components or safety-critical assemblies. 
  • Experience working within a quality-driven workshop environment, including calibration control, documentation and audits. 
  • Previous MRO, aircraft component overhaul or workshop leadership experience.
