HV Commissioning Engineer – 11kV to 132kV

We’re recruiting for a growing specialist HV engineering company delivering testing and commissioning services across power distribution, transmission, renewable energy and industrial networks.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HV Commissioning Engineer looking for technically varied projects, long-term progression and exposure to systems operating from 11kV to 132kV.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for testing and commissioning HV substations, electrical equipment, protection systems and control schemes across projects throughout the UK.
Your responsibilities will include:
- FAT, SAT, cold and hot commissioning
- Primary and secondary injection testing
- Testing transformers, switchgear, cables, CTs and VTs
- Protection relay testing, configuration and scheme proving
- Functional, point-to-point and intertripping checks
- SCADA, metering, control and communications testing
- G99 compliance and witness testing
- Fault finding and technical problem-solving
- Producing test sheets, commissioning reports and handover documentation
- Liaising with clients, DNOs, ICPs, IDNOs and project teams
What We’re Looking For
- At least three years’ HV testing and commissioning experience
- Experience working on systems between 11kV and 132kV
- Strong protection and control knowledge
- Experience using Omicron, Megger or similar test equipment
- Familiarity with Siemens, Schneider Electric, ABB, GE or SEL protection relays
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams
- Good understanding of HV safety rules, RAMS and commissioning procedures
- Willingness to travel and stay away when projects require it
- Full UK driving licence
HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
SAP status, National Grid Person, BESC, ECS/CSCS and G99 commissioning experience would be advantageous. Candidates with strong practical commissioning experience who are willing to obtain additional authorisations will also be considered.
