Electrical Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team and ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our electrical and industrial systems.

This role is primarily electrical, with an approximate 70% electrical / 30% mechanical split. The successful candidate will be responsible for preventative and reactive maintenance, fault finding, repairs, and continuous improvement across site equipment and systems.

The position operates on a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern, covering both days and nights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on electrical and industrial equipment.

  • Diagnose and rectify electrical faults quickly and effectively to minimise downtime.

  • Undertake electrical testing, inspection, fault finding, and repairs in accordance with relevant regulations and company procedures.

  • Work with electrical control systems, motors, sensors, drives, PLCs, panels, and associated equipment.

  • Complete approximately 70% electrical and 30% mechanical maintenance activities.

  • Carry out basic mechanical repairs, adjustments, and maintenance where required.

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, technical manuals, and engineering documentation.

  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, modification, and upgrade of electrical and mechanical equipment.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, faults, inspections, and repairs.

  • Identify recurring faults and recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability and efficiency.

  • Work closely with production and other engineering teams to minimise equipment downtime.

  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures, health and safety legislation, and relevant electrical standards.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.

Shift Pattern

  • 4 days on / 4 days off

  • 4 nights on / 4 nights off

  • Rotating day and night shifts

  • Full-time permanent position

Salary

  • £47,500 per annum

  • Salary increase following successful completion of probation, subject to performance and company review.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Engineer, Electrical Maintenance Engineer, or similar role within a manufacturing, industrial, production, or facilities environment.

  • Strong electrical fault-finding and maintenance experience.

  • Good working knowledge of industrial electrical systems and equipment.

  • Experience with motors, drives, control panels, sensors, PLCs, and electrical distribution systems is desirable.

  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and engineering drawings.

  • Mechanical maintenance experience, ideally around 30% of previous duties, is desirable.

  • Relevant electrical qualification such as NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC/HND, or equivalent.

  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements and safe electrical working practices.

  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.

  • Willingness to work rotating day and night shifts.
