Deputy Head of Safety and Compliance

Reporting to the Head of Safety and Compliance, assisting with the development, administration and maintenance of an effective safety management and compliance monitoring system that meets Regulatory and Company Requirements.

The Deputy Head of Safety and Compliance will deputise for the Head of Safety and Compliance in their absence covering both Regulatory and Company responsibilities.

The functions of the role are as follows:

  • Help with Facilitating hazard identification, risk analysis and management.
  • Help monitor the implementation of actions taken to mitigate risks and corrective actions to ensure their accomplishment
  • Provide periodic reports on safety performance as directed.
  • Help maintain safety management documentation.
  • Help with ensuring that there is safety management training available and that it meets acceptable standards.
  • Provide advice on safety matters.
  • Be involved in the initiation and follow-up of internal safety reports as appropriate.
  • Participate in investigations as required.
  • Help with the collation, understanding and dissemination of information from other similar organisations, the regulator and contracted organisations
  • Be pro-active concerning safety issues to all Company management and personnel
  • Helping to ensure that all reports concerning safety issues are monitored and that they are processed expeditiously
  • Helping ensure that safety audits are carried out on third party operations and/or training suppliers if required and reporting the findings to the Chief Training Captain and/or Chief Pilot as appropriate.
  • Helping ensure that incidents and accidents are reported as required by legislation.
  • Helping to ensure the distribution of relevant safety information to Company personnel
  • Helping with the creation of data packs for safety meetings and the recording of minutes and actions within Centrik.
  • Helping with the creation and maintenance of safety interfaces

The functions of the Deputy Head of Safety and Compliance, with regard to Compliance Monitoring are as follows:

  • Help maintain the Internal Audit Plan to meet the requirements of the Integrated Management System
  • Help ensure that Internal Audits are undertaken in accordance with the plan and the procedures detailed within this document
  • Help ensure that Findings and Observations are correctly categorised and accurately detail the non-compliance or improvement identified in the audit
  • Help monitor the response to findings and observations from internal and external audits to ensure their accomplishment
  • Provide periodic reports on compliance monitoring performance as requested.
  • Help maintain compliance monitoring documentation.
  • Provide advice on compliance matters.
  • Help monitor Regulations for changes that need to be incorporated into procedures and processes
  • Be pro-active concerning compliance issues to all Company management and personnel
  • Help ensuring that compliance monitoring audits are carried out on third party organisations as detailed in this document
  • Help ensuring the distribution of relevant compliance information to Company personnel
  • Help with the providing of feedback to the Accountable Manager on Compliance
  • Help manage the approval process for providers
  • Help manage the Authorisation process for Part CAMO, Part 145, Part 147 and Safety and Compliance Staff
  • Help with the support of external auditors
  • Be involved in the response to external audit findings, including formulating, in liaison with the appropriate Nominated Person, a suitable action plan that reflects the level of finding and demonstrating that corrective actions, root cause analysis and preventative actions have been carried out.

The Deputy Head of Safety and Compliance requirements are as follows:

  • Capable of being Deputy Safety Manager and Compliance Monitoring Manager for all Company Regulatory Approvals, ideally having held these Nominated Posts previously
  • Have a good understanding of Operational, Aircrew and Continuing Airworthiness Regulations
  • Be a good communicator at all levels within the Company, with Regulators, Customers and with Providers
  • Be a trained auditor with a minimum of 2 years and ideally at least 5 years of safety management and compliance monitoring experience
  • Ideally have experience of ISO approvals and non-UK Regulator aviation approvals. Experience or qualifications in Health and Safety would also be an advantage.
  • Be capable of helping develop solutions to Regulatory Requirements to minimise their commercial affect whilst still maintaining safety and compliance
  • Have a willingness to travel to Company and Third-Party locations to be able to undertake the role
